E-learning: BAL fluid in the work-up of ILD and infectious diseases
Everything you always wanted to know about the clinical value of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in interstitial lung diseases (ILD) and infectious diseases.
In 2015, an online BAL course was developed for pulmonologists, microbiologists, and pathologists. Although created several years ago, the course remains highly relevant today, as its core message and educational content are still very much up to date. This course was designed and presented by prof. Marjolein Drent and dr. Kitty Linssen†.
Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) explores large areas of the alveolar compartment, providing both cellular and non-cellular components from the lower respiratory tract. In this way, BAL offers a unique “window to the lung.”
The presentations included in this course provide detailed insight into the specific morphological features of BAL and the interpretation of BAL cell differentials. In addition, illustrative clinical cases are presented, including their clinical profiles and characteristic imaging findings. A collection of recommended reading is also available for further study.
Would you like to expand your knowledge of the practical value and clinical utility of cellular bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) analysis in the routine evaluation and management of patients with diffuse interstitial lung diseases (ILD)? And would you like to acquire the skills needed to apply this knowledge in daily clinical practice and patient care?
