Prof. Dr. Ron M. du Bois

Ron du Bois is Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Senior Research Investigator, Imperial College, London. He was previously Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at National Jewish Health, Denver, Colorado and Consultant Physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London UK. He qualified from Cambridge University and trained in general and respiratory medicine in London at the Royal Free and Royal Brompton Hospitals. After a two-year period as visiting scientist in the Pulmonary Branch of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, he returned to London to develop his clinical and research interests in the genetics, pathogenesis and treatment of interstitial lung diseases at the Royal Brompton Hospital where he was head of the Interstitial Lung Disease Unit and the Clinical Genomics Group. More recently he has worked at National Jewish Health, Denver, Colorado on translational programs of research in the Divisions of Pulmonary Medicine and Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences and the Center for Genes, Environment, and Health. His research goals have been to bridge basic and clinical research to better understand disease causation and to find better and more novel approaches to treatment. Dr. du Bois is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed articles published in journals including The American Journal of Pathology, The Lancet, the New England Journal of Medicine, The American Journal of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine, and The American Journal of Cell & Molecular Biology. He has been Associate Editor for Thorax and The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. du Bois is a member of several professional medical associations, including the American Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society and the British Thoracic Society. He has served as a member of The British Thoracic Society Orphan Lung Diseases Committee, the American Thoracic Society Planning and Nominating Committees, the European Respiratory Society Council and was a Medical Advisor to the Raynaud’s and Scleroderma Association, UK, for more than a decade. Dr. du Bois is advisory board chair or member for several studies of novel therapy for interstitial lung diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
